A living eco-museum at the heart of Corsica's olive-growing tradition:
In Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano, an emblematic village in the Alta Rocca, the old oil mill is much more than just a historic building: it's a precious witness to traditional Corsican know-how and rural life in days gone by. Now transformed into an eco-museum, it invites visitors to immerse themselves in the world of olive oil production, so central to the identity of the south of the island.
Housed in an authentic stone building in the heart of the village, the mill operated until the mid-20th century. It produced a rustic olive oil, extracted using traditional methods: stone millstones, manual presses, settling basins, etc. Today, all the stages in the production process are explained and showcased on an educational tour, enhanced by a wealth of period artefacts and local accounts.
The eco-museum also offers seasonal events, demonstrations and tastings, particularly during olive festivals such as A Festa di l'Oliu Novu, which are an integral part of village life. It's a lively, accessible and fascinating place that will delight the curious and heritage lovers alike.
