A key site of the Resistance, the Alta Rocca in Zonza is home to the Museum of the Corsican Resistance, which documents the region’s history during the Second World War.
It is worth recalling in this regard that Corsica was the first French department to be liberated.
Its collection, comprising 130 objects and documents and 5 multimedia presentations translated into 4 languages (French, Corsican, English and Italian), shows why and how Corsicans joined the Resistance.
The thematic timeline provides a moving account of Fascist Italy's view of Corsica, the occupation by Italian and German troops, the clandestine networks and resistance struggles... right up to the island's liberation in October 1943.
With an average of 6,000 visitors a year, the museum is undeniably a must-visit cultural attraction!
