Useful information

Perched at an altitude of around 600 metres, Altagène is a small, peaceful mid-mountain village nestling at the end of the road in the heart of the Alta Rocca region. If you're looking to discover a corner of Corsica away from the hustle and bustle, with its authentic landscapes and unspoilt charm, this is the place to go.

The municipality occupies the hills of the upper valley of the Pieve stream, a tributary of the Rizzanese, and the Sarradò mountain range culminating at 1033 metres.

You'll be greeted by beautiful stone houses, typical of the region, which blend into the natural setting of mountains and scrubland. Everything is peaceful here, and a stroll through the narrow streets will reveal the traditional architecture of the region, with its granite quarters and a few examples of tower-houses.

The surrounding countryside features orchards, olive groves and terraced fields with well-tended gardens. And on the heights of the village, the highlight is a superb panoramic view over the Rizzanese valley as it winds its way towards the Sartenais Valinco region.

If you enjoy hiking, Altagène is an excellent starting point - and a stopover point on the Mare a Mare Sud - for exploring the surrounding villages and passes. Marked trails lead you through wild nature, fragrant scrub and breathtaking panoramas.

Altagène is the perfect place for a peaceful break in an authentic setting. Whether you're a hiker or simply curious to discover a typical village, this little spot will offer you a haven of peace and authenticity.
