A unique place of remembrance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Located in the heart of the village of Zonza, in the Alta Rocca, the Museum of the Corsican Resistance<\/strong> is the only establishment on the island entirely dedicated to the Second World War and Corsican involvement in the Resistance. It highlights a key historical fact: Corsica was the first French territory to be liberated, as early as the end of the Second World War. 9 September 1943<\/strong>without the direct intervention of Allied forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Created in 2011 at the instigation of Jean-No\u00ebl A\u00efqui<\/strong>The museum has recently been given a new museography based on the cultural and social history of Corsica. It offers an immersive journey through four themed rooms<\/strong>covering the period from 1938 to 1943.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitors can discover :<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  • The threats of Italian annexation hanging over the island,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The economic and political context of the Vichy regime in Corsica,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The realities of the Italian occupation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The organisation of the Resistance, from clandestine networks to the maquis, including the essential role played by women, right up to the early liberation of the island.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The collection brings together 130 historical items and documents<\/strong>enriched with multimedia support in four languages<\/strong> (French, Corsican, English, Italian), offering an accessible and educational experience for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Thanks to a partnership withSintinelle Association<\/strong> and the support of numerous donors, the museum presents rare objects, including the Corsicans on guard\" leaflet<\/strong>written in July 1940 by Fran\u00e7ois-Marie Pietri<\/strong>considered to be the first act of resistance on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
